Obama Pledges to Keep `American Promise' Alive, Cut U.S. Taxes

Aug. 28 (Bloomberg) -- Barack Obama will tell Americans tonight that he will keep alive the ``American promise'' that allowed him to become the Democratic presidential nominee and ``spell out'' exactly how he plans to change the country.

``This moment -- this election -- is our chance to keep, in the 21st century, the American promise alive,'' Obama will say, according to excerpts released by his campaign. ``We are here because we love this country too much to let the next four years look just like the last eight.''

Obama is scheduled to take the stage before about 75,000 supporters in just a few hours at Denver's Invesco Field. In his speech, he will also continue linking presumed Republican nominee John McCain to President George W. Bush and reiterate proposals to cut taxes for working families and small businesses while ending U.S. dependence on Middle Eastern oil in 10 years.
