On GMA, Sawyer didn't challenge McCain's false claim that Obama said he would "attack Pakistan"
On Good Morning America, Diane Sawyer failed to challenge Sen. John McCain's false claim that Sen. Barack Obama has said that as president, he would "attack Pakistan." Nor did Sawyer challenge McCain's reference to "the Iraq-Pakistan border," which does not exist. Read More

LA Times did not report that Maliki statement came only after Bush administration contacted his office "to express concern" over comments in Der Spiegel
In a story on Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki's assertion to a German magazine that Sen. Barack Obama's 16-month timeline "would be the right timeframe for a withdrawal," the Los Angeles Times reported that "a Maliki spokesman said the magazine, Der Spiegel, had misinterpreted the prime minister's comments." But the Los Angeles Times did not note that the Maliki office's statement was issued only after the U.S. embassy reportedly contacted Maliki "to express concern." Read More

Fox's Hannity again falsely suggested that Obama referred to "invading Pakistan"; Gingrich doesn't acknowledge he's advocated similar position
In a discussion with Newt Gingrich on Fox News, Sean Hannity mischaracterized Sen. Barack Obama's comments about taking unilateral action against terrorism targets in Pakistan, if necessary, suggesting that Obama advocated "invading Pakistan." Rather, in an August 2007 speech, Obama said: "If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets [in Pakistan] and President [Pervez] Musharraf won't act, we will." Further, just two days earlier on Fox News' The O'Reilly Factor, Gingrich himself spoke in favor of taking action against terrorists in Pakistan. Read More

On Meet the Press, Brokaw attributed proposal for gas-tax holiday to Clinton, but not McCain
On Meet the Press, Tom Brokaw asked Al Gore if, on the subject of renewable energy, "Hillary Clinton reset this debate when she said there should be a summer holiday on the federal gas tax." But Brokaw did not mention that Sen. John McCain also proposed a gas-tax holiday or that one of his top advisers still touts the plan as "the best stimulus package we can have right now." Read More

On his nationally syndicated radio show, Michael Savage said of the organization he called "the homosexual mafia group Media Matters": "They're a fascist, homo-- goes out of their way to misquote me, take me out of context, and try to get me in trouble with people who love me. I stand by my words. Media Mat-- and that's it. And that's where I'm going to leave it." Read More

Globe's Kranish uncritically reported McCain statement that Obama didn't vote to condemn MoveOn for ad
The Boston Globe's Michael Kranish stated that Sen. John McCain "criticized [Sen. Barack] Obama for not voting for a resolution condemning the antiwar group MoveOn.org for a newspaper ad calling the top US commander in Iraq, General David Petraeus, 'General Betray Us.' " But Kranish did not note that Obama did vote for a separate amendment that condemned the ad, as well as other attacks on past and present members of the armed forces. Read More

NY Times reporter again ignores McCain's immigration reversal
The New York Times' David D. Kirkpatrick wrote that Sen. John McCain "joined the Democrats and the White House to battle his own party" on immigration reform, but Kirkpatrick did not note that McCain's current position that the borders must be secured "first" represents a reversal from his previous position that border security could not be disaggregated from other aspects of comprehensive immigration reform. MSNBC's Hall didn't challenge Pfotenhauer's claim that Obama "fought funding" for troops in Iraq and Afghanistan
MSNBC's Tamron Hall failed to challenge the assertions of Nancy Pfotenhauer, an adviser for Sen. John McCain, that Sen. Barack Obama "fought funding for our troops on the ground in Iraq and Afghanistan over a year ago" and was "withholding funds for our troops who are in combat in Iraq and in Afghanistan." Hall did not note that Obama has cast several votes for war-funding legislation, nor did she note that McCain himself has voted against legislation funding the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.
