Part of the challenge McCain has in distancing himself from President Bush is that, for his unpopularity with the country at large, the incumbent is still a major fundraising draw for loyal Republicans.
This is why Bush joined McCain earlier this year in Phoenix at a high-dollar reception and why McCain's campaign used the above picture, obtained from a past RNC donor, in a fundraising solicitation.
Interestingly, though, the four-page letter included with the photo doesn't include the words "Bush."
"As a token of my appreciation and to welcome you to our campaign team I've sent the enclosed photograph," McCain writes.
