Statement from the Indiana Democratic Party
Dan Parker on Sen. John McCain and Law Enforcement
"What we didn't hear from Senator John McCain today was an explanation for why he has consistently voted against giving our brave law enforcement officials the resources they need."
"Over and over again, John McCain has voted against the COPS program, which in Indiana alone has put nearly 1,600 police officers and sheriff's deputies in our neighborhoods. More than 280 law enforcement agencies in Indiana benefit from COPS funding, which offers over $120 million in aid across the state to help keep our streets safe."
"Whether you are looking at his recent opposition to this important crime-fighting legislation or his vote against the 1994 Crime Bill, Senator John McCain has a proven track record of failing to support local public safety efforts."
"This election is about restoring our national priorities, and Hoosier voters deserve an answer as to why Senator McCain apparently values tax breaks for millionaires more than providing much-needed funding to our local law enforcement agencies."
