Baghdad shaken by suicide attacks

BBC

Suicide bombers have struck near two Shia mosques in Baghdad, killing at least 11 people and wounding at least 30, security officials said.

The attacks in the Iraqi capital came as worshippers left mosques after prayers celebrating Eid, which marks the end of the month of Ramadan.

Police said seven people were killed by a suicide car bomber near a mosque in the Zafaraniya district.

In the Jadida district, five people were killed by an attacker on foot.

Government officials had warned that militants might launch attacks around the time of Ramadan, one of the most important festivals in the Muslim calendar.

The Iraqi army has said that violence in the capital has spiked in the past few weeks.

At least 32 people were killed and more than 100 injured in a string of bomb attacks in Baghdad on Sunday.
