Palin : Kopp signed release not to sue

ANCHORAGE, Alaska-- As the so-called "troopergate" continues to swirl around Palin, a severance payment made to Chuck Kopp during the upheaval came with a promise not to sue.

Chuck Kopp left his police chief job in Kenai to replace ousted Trooper Commissioner Walt Monegan.

The investigation is still underway to find out if Monegan was fired through an abuse of power.

Kopp resigned suddenly after a controversy of his own surfaced of a past sexual harassment allegation, and he was given a $10,000 severance payment.

The department of administration says money for the payment will ultimately come from the office of the governor.

While Kopp had not threatened any legal action, a release was obtained to prevent it in the future.
