Fox News' Ham falsely claimed Obama "need[ed] changing political winds" to support designating Iranian Revolutionary Guard a terrorist group
On Fox News' The O'Reilly Factor, Mary Katharine Ham falsely claimed that Sen. Barack Obama "need[ed] changing political winds" to support designating the Iranian Revolutionary Guard a terrorist group. In fact, Obama has consistently supported designating the Iranian Revolutionary Guard a terrorist organization, having co-sponsored a bill in 2007 to do so. Read More

O'Reilly falsely claimed 60 Minutes asked McCain, but not Obama, about the "financial disaster"
On his radio show, Bill O'Reilly falsely claimed that during interviews conducted by 60 Minutes, Sen. John McCain was asked about the financial crisis on Wall Street while Sen. Barack Obama was not. In fact, 60 Minutes correspondent Steve Kroft asked Obama several questions about the financial crisis, including, "What caused it? Who's to blame?" and "Do you think that Secretary of the Treasury [Henry] Paulson has done the right thing?" Read More

The Hill again ignored McCain's reversal on immigration legislation
In an article, The Hill asserted that "[m]any GOP members have previously questioned McCain for co-sponsoring legislation with Sen. Edward Kennedy (D-Mass.) that would have put millions of illegal immigrants on a path to citizenship." However, the article did not note that McCain has said he no longer supports that legislation. NY Times falsely suggested only Dems refer to GOP plan as "privatization"
In an article, The New York Times suggested that only Democrats use the label "privatization" to refer to proposals like that supported by Sen. Pittsburgh Post-Gazette ignored Obama statement undermining McCain accusation on U.S. envoy to Northern Ireland
The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette uncritically reported that Sen. John McCain "asserted that Mr. [Barack] Obama doesn't seem interested in keeping" a special U.S. envoy to aid the peacekeeping process in Northern Ireland. In fact, the Obama campaign has stated that, if elected president, Obama "will appoint a senior envoy to Ireland who will build on the groundbreaking achievements of the Clinton Administration and help bring the historic process to final fruition." Declaring "Hell Freezes Over," Halperin falsely suggests Obama and McCain had both been unavailable to media
In a September 23 entry to his Time.com website, The Page, titled "Hell Freezes Over," Time magazine editor-at-large Mark Halperin wrote that both Sens. Barack Obama and John McCain will "take questions from their traveling press corps Tuesday afternoon." Contrary to Halperin's suggestion that the candidates have both made themselves unavailable to reporters, Obama held a press conference on September 19 regarding the economy, during which he fielded several questions from reporters. By contrast, more than a month has passed since McCain's last press conference on August 13, as reported by several media outlets. Read More

Time's Carney claimed new McCain ad -- which contains falsehoods -- is "[l]egitimate" and "entirely within bounds"
In a Swampland blog post headlined "McCain's Legitimate Attack," Jay Carney wrote that unlike previous McCain campaign ads that included "false and distorted assaults" on Sen. Barack Obama, McCain's "new ad ... attacking Obama 'and his liberal allies' for failing to lead in the midst of the current financial markets crisis" is "entirely within bounds." In fact, the new McCain ad contains falsehoods about Obama's response to the current economic situation and his tax proposals.

KSFO's Rodgers: "[P]uckered-butt Democrat women hate Sarah Palin ... because her idea of choice was choosing not to have an abortion"
Returning to a previous claim he has made, KSFO's Lee Rodgers asserted: "I believe that the reason a bunch of puckered-butt Democrat women hate Sarah Palin is because her idea of choice was choosing not to have an abortion." Guest Steven Hayward of the American Enterprise Institute responded in part by saying: "[T]here is that very vocal segment of feminist opinion that celebrates abortion as a positive good in the same way that, you know, Southern slaveholders 150 years ago celebrated slavery as a positive good." KSFO's Rodgers baselessly claimed Pritzker is "throwing a fancy reception" for Ahmadinejad
Lee Rodgers baselessly claimed that Penny Pritzker, the national finance chair of Sen. Barack Obama's presidential campaign, is "throwing a fancy reception" for Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad "at one of the Hyatt hotels in New York," owned by Pritzker's family. Rodgers offered no evidence for the claim, and Rush Limbaugh has said, "I'm told there's no evidence that Penny Pritzker knew about" the dinner. Read More
