Immigration advocates blast McCain ad

WASHINGTON - Immigration advocates condemned an advertisement Monday in which Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign blames Barack Obama and other Democrats for last year's collapse of legislation to reform immigration policy.

"We think this ad is so inaccurate that it really should be pulled down," said Frank Sharry, executive director of America's Voice, which advocates comprehensive reforms that would include a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants and enforcement measures at the border and workplace.

Sharry called the ad "a blatant distortion of what happened" as the immigration bill failed in the Senate in the spring of 2007.

Titled "Which side are they on?" the Spanish-language ad targets Hispanic voters in the swing states of Colorado, New Mexico and Nevada.
