(AP) -- Republican congressional candidate Pete McCloskey said the Bush administration "may go down as the worst in history."
McCloskey, a moderate who served in the U.S. House from 1967-82, is running in next month's Republican primary against Rep. Richard Pombo, the chairman of the House Resources Committee.
Speaking at a candidates forum Monday night sponsored by the Tracy Press, McCloskey was booed by the Republican crowd of about 250 people when he spoke out against the Republican president.
McCloskey specifically was critical of recent revelations that the National Security Agency has been collecting records of calls made in the U.S. by ordinary Americans as part of its anti-terrorism efforts.
