The Radical Cleric Jerry "Fatty" Falwell and Liberty Counsel President Mat Staver said U.S. Sen. Arlen Specter, R-Pa., broke a promise to conservatives by allowing the confirmation hearings for Samuel Alito Jr. to be delayed until Jan. 9....
Bush wanted the confirmation hearings to be concluded prior to Christmas...
According to Falwell, Specter promised him personally that he would move conservative judicial candidates through the confirmation process in an expedited matter.
“I talked to Senator Specter when he was in the hot soup, as did many conservative leaders,” Falwell said. “He assured everyone that he would be a chairman who would support the president’s wishes. The president went against a lot of his conservative friends in supporting him. The president allowed him to stay there to expedite such matters as Judge Alito’s nomination.”
