Donors Confirm $1bn Aid To Haiti

BBC

International donors have affirmed a $1bn (£520m) aid programme for Haiti as it prepares for autumn elections.
Nearly 400 aid projects, ranging from road repairs to providing running water, have been allocated to particular donors for completion.

But the interim Haitian Prime Minister, Gerard Latortue, told a conference in French Guiana that donors had met less than 20% of pledges made last year.
Delegates said allocating projects would make donors more accountable.
The $1bn is confirmation of money pledged in 2004, in the wake of an uprising and the ousting of former President Jean-Bertrand Aristide.
