Tip to Fox: Gilbert Arenas already claims Jesus. Now what?

USA TODAY

While many believers are busy campaigning for Tiger Woods' soul or defending evangelical Brit Hume for his outspoken pitch to the golfer, there's not a lot of hot network air being expended on rehabbing the reputation of already-Christian folks.

That didn't change Sunday: Among the advertised topics for Fox News Sunday, where the retired anchor is a regular commentator, was the sad case of now-suspended Washington Wizard Gilbert wave-guns-around Arenas.

However, during the program, Hume and fellow panelists had other ammunition: Senate Leader Harry Reid and Republican Party Chairman Michael Steele both provided plenty of ammunition, so to speak, for political commentary.

Still, it's worth musing what those crusading for Buddhist Tiger Woods' conversion would say to Arenas. According to Arenas' My Space page, he's a self-identified Christian so it's late in the game for a direct conversion pitch like Hume's straight-to-the-camera altar call to Woods last week. Indeed, according to Arenas' once-active Twitter account, he says he has Jesus tattooed over his ribs "becuz he's on my side." (I checked photos of Arenas for an anti-fur-fashion ad campaign and couldn't find Jesus in all the ink but perhaps you can.)

Are there different standards for calling people out on their faith choices? Over at The Family, the folks who pray with a whole lot of Washington power brokers -- including several scandal-tagged officials with adultery issues -- they like to keep their prayers and counseling private to be effective, they say...............................
