The New York Times' Adam Nagourney wrote that Michael Steele "apologized to Rush Limbaugh on Monday after describing him ... as an 'entertainer' who made incendiary and sometimes ugly remarks, party officials said." But while Nagourney also noted that "Democrats -- including Rahm Emanuel, the White House chief of staff -- sought to portray Mr. Limbaugh as the new face of the Republican Party," he did not mention that Steele is not the only Republican to recently backpedal after criticizing Limbaugh even though Emanuel referenced another example just two days earlier. Following the Drudge Report's lead, Fox News hosts Neil Cavuto, Glenn Beck, and Sean Hannity each suggested that, in Cavuto's words, a "massive snowstorm," which recently hit the East Coast, calls into question the scientific consensus on "global warming." In a Twitter post, Newt Gingrich falsely claimed that there have been no oil spills in the waters off Santa Barbara since 1969. In fact, there were at least two oil spills reported in or near the Santa Barbara Channel in just the last few months, according to the U.S. Coast Guard. Read More
Wash. Post latest to omit Sebelius' Catholic support
A Washington Post article quoted the president of the Catholic Family and Human Rights Institute saying of secretary of Health and Human Services nominee Kathleen Sebelius: "That she is a dissident Catholic is a further slap in the face to Catholics and the Catholic Church." But the article did not note that President Obama's selection of Sebelius has received support from Catholics United and numerous other Catholics. Read More
AP omitted that Santelli retreated from claim of White House "threat" when challenged by Lauer
Writing about Rick Santelli's rant against President Obama's proposed foreclosure reduction plan, the AP's David Bauder reported that White House press secretary Robert Gibbs "was quick to criticize Santelli for his comments," and that "Santelli said later he felt he had been threatened by Gibbs" and was "asked about it late last week on NBC's 'Today' show." But Bauder failed to note that during that interview, Today host Matt Lauer told Santelli, "He [Gibbs] wasn't threatening you," and Santelli replied: "Well, listen, I'm not saying threatening." Joe Scarborough stated that "the average unemployment rate for 1984" was the "same that the unemployment rate is right now" and then added: "[A]nd ... 1975, it was nine [percent]; 1982, it was about 11 percent, and we didn't nationalize everything then and ... we didn't say we're going to put a stimulus bill out there to get people back to work right now and spend money we didn't have." WSJ uncritically quoted former CEO of scandal-plagued hospital firm attacking Obama on health care
The Wall Street Journal reported that Richard Scott, "the former chief executive of HCA Inc," had formed the non-profit organization Conservatives for Patients' Rights as part of a "lobbying campaign[] to derail or modify" President Obama's health care proposals, but failed to note that Scott resigned from HCA in 1997 amid a federal investigation into the company's Medicare billing, physician recruiting, and home-care practices. HCA eventually pleaded guilty to fraud charges and paid approximately $1.7 billion in fines and penalties. Read More

The Politico and Roll Call both reported on a letter sent by Senate Republicans to President Obama stating that if they "are not consulted on, and approve of, a nominee from our states," they would filibuster judicial nominations -- but neither article noted that several of those Republicans previously challenged the constitutionality of filibustering judicial nominees. MSNBC's Brewer cropped Dow to suggest current decline began on Election Day
On MSNBC Live, Contessa Brewer stated, "Since Election Day, the Dow Jones industrial average has dropped nearly 3,000 points. It's shed a quarter of its value in just the past two months." But the Dow was on a downward trajectory months before the election, dropping 3,738 points from May 2, 2008, to November 3, 2008. Read More
