Wash. Post did not challenge examples cited by McCain aide denouncing smears of Obama
The Washington Post reported that McCain aide Mark Salter said Sen. John McCain would not "tolerate" racially tinged attacks. According to the article, Salter noted that McCain "denounced" Bill Cunningham's controversial remarks about Sen. Barack Obama and that he "criticized" an ad by the North Carolina GOP. But the Post did not challenge Salter's claims: In fact, the McCain campaign reportedly invited Cunningham to a rally despite his history of controversial remarks, and McCain reportedly did not take steps to stop the ad from airing. CNN's Pilgrim: "[W]e misidentified former Congressman Bill Janklow as a Democrat"
During the August 1 edition of CNN's Lou Dobbs Tonight, guest host Kitty Pilgrim issued a correction, noting that the previous evening, CNN had misidentified South Dakota Republican Bill Janklow as a Democrat. Pilgrim said: "Well, last night, we reported on the different types of felonies committed by members of Congress, and in that report, we misidentified former Congressman Bill Janklow as a Democrat. On three Hannity programs, Corsi offered another falsehood: Obama supports abortion "[a]fter a child's born"
Jerome Corsi, author of the book, The Obama Nation, falsely claimed on Hannity's America that Sen. Barack Obama said, "Even if a child was born ... the woman still had the right to kill the child in an abortion." Corsi similarly falsely asserted on Hannity & Colmes that "[a]fter a child's born, Obama ... in the [Illinois] state Senate, wanted the child killed if the mother desired an abortion," and on Sean Hannity's radio program, said that "Obama's on record as let's kill the baby if that's what the mother wants."
