GREENSBORO, N.C. — North Carolina Sen. Elizabeth Dole is giving to charity $10,000 in campaign cash she received from Sen. Ted Stevens.
Stevens, who has represented Alaska for decades, was indicted Tuesday on seven felony counts of false statements.
Dole campaign spokesman Hogan Gidley said the Republican lawmaker wrote a check to the Society of St. Andrew, which is working to end hunger.
Campaign officials for rival Kay Hagan called on Dole to get rid of all $21,000 she had received from Stevens and his political committees since 2001.
Gidley said the other $11,000 was from her first Senate campaign and "doesn't exist anymore."
