America's shame : Video captures grinning U.S. Marine throwing yelping puppy off cliff in Iraq

Daily Mail.co

The U.S. military are investigating a shocking video of a smiling Marine throwing a puppy off the top of a steep hillside in Iraq into a gully below.

The video gained widespread attention and condemnation after appearing on the web site YouTube, where it has been viewed over 8,000 times.

The footage shows two Marines, in combat gear and smiling, as one holds a white-and-black puppy by the scruff of its neck.

The small dog seems to be about eight weeks old and is motionless as it is held.

"Cute little puppy, huh?" says one Marine as he smiles broadly.

"Oh so cute, so cute, little puppy," says another in a child-like voice.

The Marine holding the puppy then turns and hurls the animal overhand into a desert-like gully below.

The puppy can be heard yelping in terror until it thuds to the ground at the bottom of the gully.

"That's mean," one Marine says after, in a sickening understatement.

"The video is shocking and deplorable and is contrary to the high standards we expect of every Marine," a spokesperson revealed.

Marine spokesman Major Chris Perrine believed the culprit is based in Hawaii.

"We do not tolerate this type of behaviour and will take appropriate action," he said.

The 2nd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment of about 1,000 Hawaii Marines recently replaced a sister unit in Iraq, the 3rd Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment.

Marine Corps Base Hawaii said the vast majority of Marines "conduct their duties in an honourable manner that brings great credit upon the Marine Corps and the United States."

"There have been numerous stories of Marines adopting pets and bringing them home from Iraq or helping to arrange life-saving medical care for Iraqi children," said Major Chris Perrine.

"Those are the stories that exemplify what we stand for and how most Marines behave."

  3. I sincerely hope their names are made public, including the wimp that shot the video. Better yet, send them back for another "tour" and leave them there.

  5. I have two dogs .. both adopted from foster homes when they were puppies. They both have brought nothing but joy into our lives.

IF this video IS authentic, and this IS in fact one of our solders ...

I sincerly hope the low-life that saw fit to end an innocent and defenseless young life remembers those yelps every night for the rest of his life ... each and every night.

Furthermore, he represents NOTHING this country stands for, should be removed from duty and stripped of any and all military benefits our tax dollars so deservingly go toward benefiting the other good solders who DO represent the things this country stands for ... in this case, the value of life.

And I commend the person who took the video with at least having the common sense to allow the public to see and react to this atrocity.

  6. This is an idiot in our military who is disgracing the name of all people who value life, not only Americans. As a dog owner I am disgusted. As an American I am ashamed & disgusted. As an employee of the Veteran's Administration I can tell you that those patient's I've discussed this with are also DISGUSTED!! This solder should be kicked out of the service. This is the early signs of a VERY DISTURBED individual and animal abuse often leads to people abuse and at times leads to human MURDER. Get rid of him now before he kills a solder or some other innocent being.

  7. These guys are cowards. They're walking around in US Marine uniforms in a hostile country where they are always in fear for their life serving the military- and they have to show their toughness by tossing a puppy off of a cliff? Is this supposed to be manly? This is a disgrace. I'm glad the Marines are disowning this behavior. If Michael Vick may lose his NFL career for FUNDING and supplying dog fighting havens, then this marine should be dishonorably discharged and blasted by the media with his name publicly broadcast so every dog loving American can know how much of a complete cold hearted A$$hole he is.

This is a message for him if he ever reads it: You're a coward. I'm ashamed you wear our countries military uniform.

  8. I can only HOPE that this Marine gets his legs blown off in a nice roadside bomb. Better yet, a nice brain tumor. That would be justice.

  9. It's a dog people. Dogs die every day by people all over the world. Would it been acceptable to you if he had cut it up and ate like they do in some parts of Asia? Only in America that people get this upset over animals. You people need leave the States to go to other countries and experience the REAL WORLD. I can't believe that some of you would even wish harm on this Marine. I’m not saying it right but it shouldn’t be this big of a deal. Hey, it could’ve been worse; in Vietnam soldiers would cut parts of humans and keep them as souvenirs. Until your in there shoes you shouldn’t cast judgment.

  10. To the person who posted as "E": It is sad that you believe that killing a dog "should'nt be this big of a deal." Just because it was a dog, doesn't mean that it's life was less important. Killing maliciously is wrong, no matter the being. And, such behavior can and has led to violent behavior towards humans. I have left the US and been to many other countries. What's your point? What this Marine did was morally dispicable, and there's no excuse for it, end of story. There shouldn't be a scale measuring the value of life ever!

  11. Just because he is a Marine surely does not exclude him from being a psychopath. The murder of a defenseless life in the act of nothing but pleasure or even boredome is a sick act regardless of the person committing the act. These people are inducted into our armed services to protect America from those working to harm us or take our freedom...certainly a tiny dog is not a threat. What a disgusting, sickening act on behalf of someone that is held to be honorable in the eyes of the USA.

  12. I am a combat veteran and I have to say sadly that I have witnessed a similar abuse as well. It is so inhumane and I hope they will punish the stupid marine like I had done to the Sgt. in my platoon. Strip his rank off and make him clean the porter patties for 2 weeks!!!!
