BAGHDAD Iraqi police say 10 sheiks allied against Al Qaeda have been kidnapped.

(AP) - The group was made up of both Sunni and Shiite tribal leaders. Police say they were traveling home to Diyala province after a meeting with a government official in Baghdad to discuss coordinating efforts against Al Qaeda in Iraq.

U.S. military commanders have attributed a drop in violence in Diyala - a former Al Qaeda stronghold - to the increased public opposition to Al Qaeda, as well as an influx of U.S. troops as part of a security crackdown.
