DUBAI, July 3 (Reuters) - Two Iraqi insurgent groups on Sunday appointed an official spokesman for the first time since they began fighting to oust U.S.-led forces in Iraq, according to an Internet statement.
The Islamic Army in Iraq and the Mujahideen Army identified the official as Ibrahim Youssef al-Shammari "to silence all those who speak in the name of the mujahideen (holy warriors), according to the statement posted on an Islamist Web site.
The statement said Shammari made his first appearance as the official spokesman in a television show on the Qatar-based Al Jazeera satellite channel on Sunday.
The two groups are among a number of insurgent organisations waging guerrilla-style hit and run attacks against U.S. forces. Analysts say the two groups are believed to be linked to Saddam Hussein's deposed Baath party.
