New Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean on Tuesday told Mississippi Democrats that their party can include people with a wide range of political beliefs. Speaking to reporters before a state party dinner in Jackson, the former Vermont governor said Democrats who call themselves "pro-life" should be comfortable in the party.
"I think the biggest difference between pro-life people in the Democratic Party and pro-life people in the Republican Party is that pro-life Democrats care about children after they are born, not just before," Dean said. Dean, an early front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination last year before his campaign faded after early primaries, was set to speak to a standing-room only crowd of about 900 at the Clarion Hotel near downtown Jackson.
